Module decision lens: First experiment
Use this fieldwork to apply the module to the course outcome: Explain AI credibly and select one safe support-building experiment
1. Define the decision
- Which consequential organisational decision should the First experiment lens change?
- Who owns that decision, who may challenge it, and when must it be made?
- What would remain unchanged if the organisation did nothing?
2. Build the support record
| Support field | What to capture |
|---|---|
| Baseline | Current performance, cost, risk or stakeholder experience. |
| Support | Observable facts and credible sources supporting the decision. |
| Assumptions | Claims that remain unproven, with a proposed test. |
| Trade-offs | Material alternatives, affected stakeholders and opportunity costs. |
| Control | Human review, risk limit, escalation path and accountable owner. |
| Gate | The next scale, revise or stop decision and the verification threshold. |
3. Conduct one stakeholder interview
Ask: “Where does our current approach to First experiment create avoidable delay, risk or lost value? What support would change your view?” Record the answer, the participant’s role and any contradiction it introduces.
4. Produce the organisation-facing output
- Write a 150-word insight separating support, inference and recommendation.
- Create one decision slide: decision required, support, options, risk, owner and next gate.
- Add both items to the capstone 30-day AI learning experiment.
- Use the workshop and email templates in the Applied Leadership Toolkit to test the recommendation with colleagues.
Completion standard: the output names a real decision and owner, uses support rather than aspiration, acknowledges uncertainty and changes the next accountable action.
